Nottingham Ice Arena

April 1st '02

Christmas day 2001, I opened my present from my girlfriend to find two tickets to see System of a Down, the following April in Nottingham.  (For some reason Heidi didn't want to join me on my best present since my superman suit, aged 5) But she had already asked our good friend Neil Gilbert if he'd like to go.

A few days before the concert Neil was having problems getting time off work, and told me he would be unable to go.  So I asked my good mate Sean Lafferty (who had seen System 4 days previously in London) and he almost bit my hand off.

By the way, Sean is the one who looks 2x cool, I'm the one that looks super- imposed.

The Gig

The concert itself was awesome, the band played a rockin selection of tracks from the first and the then, newly released second album.  Serj, Daron and Shavo were their usual animated selves onstage, constantly interacting with the audience, and John the drummer surprised everyone by wrecking his drum kit and diving into the crowd.  And of course there were lesbians there, all in all - top gig!

Due to the gig landing on a bank holiday Monday, there were no trains home but seens as Sean was working in the Corby branch of the Hilton Hotel it only made sense to stay in Nottingham, especially at staff discount prices.

So after scrambling round to find someone to come to the show with me, seeing a banging concert, AND catching match of the day in the hotel bar, you'll never guess who we bumped into....
